Content is free to cite. ======================================================================== GUIDES & DOCUMENTATION ======================================================================== # Getting Started: Import Your First Bank Statement into Tally URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/docs/getting-started A complete step-by-step setup guide with screenshots: create your account, connect Tally, upload a bank statement, map ledgers and post vouchers to TallyPrime. This walkthrough takes you from sign-up to posted Tally vouchers in about five minutes — with a screenshot of every screen. You'll import a bank statement, but the same flow works for sales, purchases, journals and GST files. Before you start: you need a Windows PC running TallyPrime or Tally.ERP 9 with a company open. You can explore the whole app in built-in demo mode first — it uses a mock Tally so you can try importing and mapping without connecting anything. ## 1. Create your free account Go to ledger.fastlegal.in and create an account with your email. The free trial includes 100 entries with no monthly reset — use them whenever you like. After signing in you land on the dashboard, which is your pipeline at a glance. [Screenshot: The dashboard — ledgers synced, entries mapped, and vouchers posted to Tally at a glance.] ## 2. Connect your Tally Open Connector from the sidebar and click Download TallyConnector. Copy the file to the PC where Tally runs, launch it, and sign in with the same account. The connector talks to Tally on localhost:9000 and calls the cloud over an outbound HTTPS connection — so there are no ports to open and your books never leave your machine. [Screenshot: The Connector screen: download the Windows agent, set the Tally host/port, and check the live status.] In Tally, make sure Gateway of Tally → F1: Help → Settings → Connectivity (or F12 in older versions) has ODBC / “act as Both” enabled on port 9000. The Connector screen shows a green “online” dot once it can reach Tally. ## 3. Upload your bank statement Go to Imports. Pick Bank Statement as the type, choose (or create) the bank ledger the statement belongs to, then drag in the file. LedgerSync accepts the PDF from net banking or the Excel/CSV export from any Indian bank — dates, narrations and withdrawals/deposits are detected automatically. [Screenshot: The Imports screen: choose what you are importing, pick the bank ledger, and drop in the file.] ## 4. Review and map ledgers After parsing you'll see every transaction with a suggested ledger. Confirm the good ones, correct any that are off, and use Review similar to map a whole group of recurring narrations (UPI payees, EMIs, salaries) in a single click. Mapping rules learn from your choices, so next month's statement is even faster. The running-balance reconciliation banner confirms every line was captured. [Screenshot: Reviewing a parsed statement: each row shows its amount, Dr/Cr, suggested ledger and status.] Nothing is written to Tally while you review. Uploading, parsing, mapping and re-importing are always free — only posting a voucher consumes a trial entry. ## 5. Post to Tally When the batch looks right, click Post to Tally. LedgerSync builds standard vouchers (Receipt, Payment, Sales, Purchase, Journal, Contra) and the connector writes them into your Tally company. Posted rows turn green; if Tally rejects one, you'll see the exact reason in plain English with a one-click fix (for example, “create the missing ledger and retry”). ## 6. Check your books Open Reports to pull the Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss or Trial Balance live from Tally — grouped exactly as Tally groups them — so you can confirm the import landed correctly. [Screenshot: Live reports pulled straight from your Tally company after posting.] ## What next? - Connecting TallyPrime with the connector — the detailed connector setup. - Mapping transactions to ledgers — rules, AI and bulk mapping. - Importing GSTR-1 / 2A / 2B — GST portal files to Tally. - Troubleshooting — if the connector won't come online or a voucher fails. # Connecting TallyPrime with the Windows Connector URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/docs/connect-tally How to install and configure the LedgerSync Tally connector so the cloud app can read ledgers and post vouchers to TallyPrime or Tally.ERP 9 — no ports, no static IP. The connector is a tiny Windows agent that bridges the browser app and your local Tally. It runs on the PC where Tally is installed, connects out over HTTPS, and posts approved vouchers into your company. No inbound ports, no static IP, no data leaving your machine. ## 1. Download & run On the Tally PC, open Connector in the app and click Download TallyConnector. Run the downloaded TallyConnector.exe and sign in with the same FastLegal account you use in the browser. [Screenshot: The Connector page: download link, Tally host/port settings and live status.] ## 2. Turn on connectivity in Tally Tally needs to accept requests on its local port: - Open your company in TallyPrime or Tally.ERP 9. - Go to Gateway of Tally → F1: Help → Settings → Connectivity (TallyPrime) or press F12 → Advanced Configuration (Tally.ERP 9). - Set “TallyPrime acts as” to Both, and confirm the port is 9000. - Keep Tally running with the company open. If you changed the port in Tally, set the same value in the Port field on the Connector screen and click Save settings. ## 3. Verify it's online Back in the app, the Connector status shows a green dot and “online” once the agent can reach Tally, along with the machine name, Tally version and company. Click Test connection to re-check at any time. ## 4. Pick your company Open Companies → Discover from Tally to list the companies the connector can see, and add the one you want to post into. You can keep several companies (for example, one per client) in the same workspace. Until a live connector is detected, the app runs in demo mode with a built-in mock Tally so you can trial the full workflow. Demo-mode vouchers are never sent to a real Tally. # Importing a Bank Statement (PDF, Excel or CSV) URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/docs/import-bank-statement How to import any Indian bank statement into Tally: supported formats, choosing the bank ledger, statement period, and the balance reconciliation check. LedgerSync reads statements from any Indian bank — the net-banking PDF or the Excel/CSV export — and turns every line into a mapped Receipt/Payment voucher. This guide covers formats, the bank ledger and the reconciliation check. ## Supported formats - PDF — text-based net-banking statements, including multi-line narrations and column-positioned amounts. - Excel (.xlsx/.xls) and CSV — the download from your bank's portal, no reformatting needed. Scanned/image-only PDFs can't be read as text. If your PDF is a scan, download the Excel/CSV statement from net banking instead. ## Uploading - Open Imports and choose Bank Statement. - Select the bank ledger this statement belongs to (create one if it's new). - Optionally set the statement period so only the range you want is imported. - Drag in the file, or click to browse, then Upload & parse. [Screenshot: Choosing the bank statement type, the bank ledger and the file to upload.] ## Balance reconciliation When your statement carries a running balance, LedgerSync checks it: opening + deposits − withdrawals = closing. If every entry reconciles you'll see a green “balance verified” banner; if something is missing or misread, it's flagged before you post — so you never post an incomplete month. ## Then map and post Continue with mapping transactions to ledgers and posting to Tally. # Mapping Transactions to Tally Ledgers URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/docs/mapping-ledgers How ledger mapping works in LedgerSync: suggestions, mapping rules that learn, AI categorisation, and bulk one-click mapping of similar entries. Mapping is where a raw statement becomes correct Tally vouchers — each transaction assigned to the right ledger. LedgerSync does most of it automatically and learns from every correction you make. ## Suggestions & rules Every row arrives with a suggested ledger, based on your mapping rules and past choices. Accept it, or pick another ledger from the searchable dropdown. When you correct one, a rule is remembered so the same narration maps itself next time. [Screenshot: Each transaction row with its amount, Dr/Cr, suggested ledger and status.] ## Review similar — bulk mapping Recurring narrations (UPI payees, EMIs, salaries, bank charges) are grouped. Click Review similar, choose one ledger, and map the whole group in a single click. A month of repetitive entries becomes a few decisions. ## AI categorisation For narrations no rule matches, AI categorisation suggests a ledger with a confidence score. Uncertain entries are flagged rather than auto-posted — you always approve before anything reaches Tally. ## Mapping Rules Manage your keyword→ledger rules under Mapping Rules. Add rules like “contains SWIGGY → Food & Beverages”, and they apply to every future import. New ledgers you create during mapping are created in your Tally company under the group you choose, so the voucher posts cleanly the first time. # Posting Vouchers to Tally URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/docs/posting-to-tally How posting works: voucher types, one-click batch posting through the connector, what counts as an entry, and handling voucher errors from Tally. Posting writes your reviewed entries into Tally as standard vouchers through the connector. Here's how it works and what to do if Tally rejects one. ## Voucher types LedgerSync posts the standard Tally vouchers — Receipt, Payment, Sales, Purchase, Journal, Contra and Credit/Debit Note — chosen automatically from the data (a bank deposit becomes a Receipt, a withdrawal a Payment, and so on). You can override the voucher type per row before posting. ## One-click posting Click Post to Tally and the whole batch is sent in one go. Each row shows its status — posted, queued or failed — and posted vouchers appear in Tally immediately, looking exactly like manually entered ones. ## What counts as an entry? Only a posted voucher consumes a trial/pack entry. Uploading, parsing, mapping, re-importing and reviewing are always free. The free trial's 100 entries have no monthly reset. ## If a voucher fails When Tally rejects a voucher, LedgerSync shows the exact error in plain English. The most common cause is a ledger that doesn't exist in Tally — in which case you'll get a “create ledger & retry” button that fixes it in one click. See the troubleshooting guide for the full list. # Importing GSTR-1, GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B into Tally URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/docs/gst-imports How to import GST portal files into Tally: upload the GSTR-1 / 2A / 2B Excel as-is and post buyer/supplier-wise vouchers with correct CGST/SGST/IGST. Upload the GST portal file exactly as you download it — no reformatting — and LedgerSync builds GST-correct vouchers with the right CGST/SGST/IGST split, mapped to your party ledgers. ## Which return does what - GSTR-1 → buyer-wise sales vouchers (your outward supplies). - GSTR-2A / GSTR-2B → supplier-wise purchase vouchers (your inward supplies / ITC). ## How to import - Download the return workbook from the GST portal. - In Imports, choose GSTR-1, GSTR-2A or GSTR-2B. - Upload the Excel as-is and click parse. - Map each party to its Tally ledger (remembered for next month), then post. ## Tax handling Line items are aggregated into invoices, and inter- vs intra-state supply is detected to choose IGST versus CGST+SGST. When the sheet gives only a rate and taxable value, the tax is computed for you. Credit and debit notes post as proper Tally note vouchers. Review everything before posting — GST imports are duplicate-safe, so re-uploading the same file won't double-post what you've already sent to Tally. # Troubleshooting Guide URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/docs/troubleshooting Fixes for the most common LedgerSync issues: connector offline, Tally not detected, voucher posting errors, PDF parsing, GST tax mismatches and login problems. Most issues fall into a handful of causes. Find your symptom below for the fix. If you're still stuck, email support@fastlegal.in with a screenshot. ## Connector shows “offline” / demo mode The app can't see a live connector, so it's using the built-in mock Tally. - Make sure TallyConnector.exe is running on the Tally PC and signed in with the same account. - Confirm Tally is open with a company loaded. - Check Tally connectivity is on: acts as Both, port 9000 (see Connecting Tally). - Click Test connection on the Connector screen. ## Connector online, but no company / “can't reach Tally” - The Port in the app must match Tally's ODBC port (default 9000). If you changed it in Tally, update it on the Connector screen and Save settings. - Another program may be using port 9000 — close it, or set a different port in both Tally and the app. - Use Companies → Discover from Tally to (re)list companies after opening the right one in Tally. ## A voucher failed to post - “Ledger does not exist” — the entry maps to a ledger that isn't in Tally yet. Use the “create ledger & retry” button on the error, or create it in Tally and click Retry. - Date outside period — the voucher date falls in a period your Tally company hasn't been opened for. Adjust the books' start date in Tally, or the entry date. - Duplicate — the voucher was already posted. Posted rows are marked green; you can safely skip them. ## Bank statement PDF didn't parse well - If the PDF is a scan/image, it has no text to read — download the Excel/CSV statement from net banking instead. - Password-protected PDF? Remove the password (open it and “print to PDF”) before uploading. - If a few rows look off, fix them inline on the review screen — the balance reconciliation banner points to any that don't add up. ## GST amounts look wrong after a GST import - Check the inter/intra-state classification — it drives IGST vs CGST+SGST. It's inferred from the place-of-supply in the portal file. - Make sure your tax ledgers (Output/Input CGST/SGST/IGST) exist in Tally and are mapped. ## “Free trial finished” — can't post You've used all 100 free entries (there's no monthly reset). Your data, mappings and companies stay intact — buy an entry pack from Pricing to keep posting. Uploading and mapping remain free. ## Can't sign in / forgot password - Use Forgot password on the login screen — a reset link is emailed to you. - The connector must be signed in with the same account you use in the browser. ======================================================================== PRODUCT PAGES ======================================================================== # Excel to Tally, without the data entry URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/excel-to-tally Import Excel data into TallyPrime and Tally.ERP 9 without manual entry. Upload your bank statement — the PDF from net banking or the Excel/CSV export — and LedgerSync turns every line into a mapped Tally voucher. It understands Indian bank formats, groups similar narrations (UPI payees, EMIs, salaries, bank charges) so a month of entries takes minutes, and either posts straight into Tally through the connector or hands you a Tally XML file to import yourself. Download the XML and import it in TallyPrime: Gateway → Import → Vouchers. Upload the statement your bank gave you — the net-banking PDF, the Excel download, a CSV — and get back a proper Tally XML voucher file. Every line is read, matched to one of your ledgers and written as a Receipt or Payment voucher. Download the XML and import it into TallyPrime or Tally.ERP 9 in one step. No connector, no port to open, no retyping. What you get: - PDF, Excel and CSV statements from any Indian bank - Standard Tally import XML — Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers - Receipt / Payment detected from the Dr-Cr columns automatically - Every line mapped to your own ledgers before the file is written - Works on a Tally you cannot reach over the network — email the file across - Or skip the file entirely and post straight to Tally with the connector FAQ: Q: Do I get an actual XML file to keep? A: Yes. Every import has a “Tally XML” button that downloads a standard Tally import file containing all its vouchers. Keep it, email it, or import it on any machine — it is a plain XML file, not a locked format. Q: How do I import the XML into Tally? A: Open the company in TallyPrime, go to Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers, choose the downloaded file and press Enter. On Tally.ERP 9 it is Gateway of Tally → Import of Data → Vouchers. Tally reports how many vouchers it created. Q: Do I need the connector for this? A: No — that is the point. The connector posts to Tally directly over the gateway, which is the fastest route when Tally is on a machine you control. When it isn't — a client's PC, a locked-down network, a machine with no internet — download the XML and import it by hand instead. Q: Will the vouchers look hand-typed? A: Yes. The file contains ordinary Receipt, Payment, Sales, Purchase and Journal vouchers against your existing ledgers, with Accounting Invoice mode for sales and purchases. Nothing in Tally marks them as imported. Q: What if a ledger in the file doesn't exist in Tally? A: Tally will flag it during the import. Map the row to an existing ledger in LedgerSync before downloading, or create the ledger in Tally first — the app lists exactly which ledgers an import needs before you export. Q: Is it free? A: The free trial covers 100 entries with no monthly reset, and the XML download is included. Entry packs start at ₹1,199 for 3,000 entries. # The Tally XML format, explained URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/tally-xml-format What a Tally voucher import XML actually contains: ENVELOPE, TALLYMESSAGE, VOUCHER, ALLLEDGERENTRIES.LIST, the debit/credit sign rule, and how accounting. Tally imports vouchers from a plain XML file, and the structure trips everyone up the first time — particularly the sign convention and the two different ledger-entry collections. Here is what the file looks like, what each tag is for, and the two mistakes that make Tally reject an import. What you get: - ENVELOPE → BODY → IMPORTDATA → REQUESTDATA → TALLYMESSAGE → VOUCHER - Dates are YYYYMMDD — 1 April 2025 is 20250401, not 01-04-2025 - Debits are NEGATIVE amounts with ISDEEMEDPOSITIVE=Yes; credits are positive - Accounting vouchers use ALLLEDGERENTRIES.LIST; invoices use LEDGERENTRIES.LIST - An invoice needs ISINVOICE, PARTYLEDGERNAME and the party flagged ISPARTYLEDGER - Many TALLYMESSAGE blocks can share one ENVELOPE — that is how a batch imports at once FAQ: Q: Why does Tally say “Voucher totals do not match”? A: Almost always the sign convention. In Tally XML a debit is a NEGATIVE AMOUNT with ISDEEMEDPOSITIVE=Yes, and a credit is positive. A voucher whose AMOUNTs do not sum to zero is rejected. The other common cause is putting an invoice's lines in ALLLEDGERENTRIES.LIST — an invoice reads LEDGERENTRIES.LIST, so Tally sees a voucher with no entries at all. Q: What is the difference between ALLLEDGERENTRIES.LIST and LEDGERENTRIES.LIST? A: ALLLEDGERENTRIES.LIST belongs to the accounting-voucher object (OBJVIEW="Accounting Voucher View"). LEDGERENTRIES.LIST belongs to the invoice object (ISINVOICE=Yes, OBJVIEW="Invoice Voucher View"). Use the one that matches the view, or the entries are silently ignored. Q: How do I set the voucher number? A: VOUCHERNUMBER inside the VOUCHER element. If the voucher type uses automatic numbering Tally may assign its own instead. For sales and purchases the invoice number from the source document is usually what you want. Q: Can one XML file hold vouchers for several companies? A: No. SVCURRENTCOMPANY in the request header names the company, and the whole file imports into it. Export one file per company. Q: Do I have to write the XML myself? A: No — that is what LedgerSync is for. Upload the statement, invoice register or GST file, check the mapping, and download a ready Tally XML. The sample below is what comes out. Q: Which Tally versions read this format? A: TallyPrime (all releases) and Tally.ERP 9. The import menu differs slightly: Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers in Prime, Import of Data → Vouchers in ERP 9. # Excel to Tally XML in three steps URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/excel-to-tally-xml Turn any Excel or CSV sheet — bank statement, sales register, purchase register, journal — into a Tally XML voucher file you can import into TallyPrime. You have the data in Excel and Tally wants vouchers. Upload the sheet as it is — LedgerSync works out which column is the date, the narration, the debit, the credit, the party and the GST, maps each row to a ledger, and writes a Tally XML file with one voucher per row. Import it and the entries are in your books. What you get: - No rigid template — columns are detected, not dictated - Bank statements, sales and purchase registers, journals - GST columns split into CGST / SGST / IGST ledgers automatically - Journal rows sharing a voucher number become one balanced voucher - Download the XML, or post it straight to Tally with the connector FAQ: Q: Do I get an actual XML file to keep? # How to import an XML voucher file into Tally URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/tally-xml-import Import vouchers into TallyPrime or Tally.ERP 9 from an XML file: the exact menu path, what Tally reports afterwards, and how to fix the errors it shows. Importing an XML into Tally takes about ten seconds once you know where the menu is. Here is the path for both TallyPrime and Tally.ERP 9, what the import summary means, and what to do about the two errors people actually hit — a missing ledger and a totals mismatch. What you get: - TallyPrime: Gateway of Tally → Import → Vouchers → pick the file → Enter - Tally.ERP 9: Gateway of Tally → Import of Data → Vouchers - Open the right company FIRST — the import goes into whatever is loaded - Tally reports Created / Altered / Errors when it finishes - “Ledger does not exist” → create it in Tally, or remap the row and re-export - “Voucher totals do not match” → the file's debits and credits are unbalanced FAQ: Q: Do I get an actual XML file to keep? # Bank statement PDF to Excel, without the copy-paste URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/bank-statement-pdf-to-excel Convert a bank statement PDF into a clean Excel sheet: one row per transaction with date, narration, debit, credit and balance. Copying a PDF statement into Excel by hand ruins an afternoon — narrations wrap, amounts land in the wrong column, and the totals never tie. Upload the PDF instead. Every transaction comes out as its own row, the running balance is reconciled so nothing is missed, and you can download the whole thing as Excel in one click. What you get: - Any Indian bank's net-banking PDF — no template to pick - One row per transaction: date, narration, reference, debit, credit, balance - Multi-line narrations kept whole, column amounts read by position - Running balance reconciled line by line — a missed entry is flagged - Every original column of the statement carried through as well - Post the same import to Tally afterwards, if you want to FAQ: Q: How do I convert a bank statement PDF to Excel? A: Upload the PDF, let it parse, then press Export Excel. You get a clean sheet with one row per transaction — date, narration, reference, debit, credit and running balance — plus every column the statement itself carried. Q: Does it work on scanned statements? A: It reads text-based PDFs, which is what net-banking downloads are. A scanned photocopy has no text layer, so run it through OCR first or download the statement again from net banking. Q: Will the columns line up properly? A: Yes. The parser follows printed column positions rather than guessing at spaces, so multi-line narrations stay with their own row and amounts do not drift into the wrong column — the two things that break copy-paste. Q: Can I get the balance column too? A: Yes, and it is used as a check: the running balance is reconciled line by line, so a missing or misread transaction is flagged rather than silently carried into your books. Q: Do I have to post it to Tally? A: No. Convert to Excel and stop there if that is all you need. If you do want the entries in Tally, the same import posts them as vouchers or gives you a Tally XML file. Q: Is it free? A: The free trial covers 100 entries with no monthly reset. Entry packs start at ₹1,199 for 3,000 entries. # Convert HDFC Bank statements to Tally automatically URL: https://ledger.fastlegal.in/hdfc-bank-statement-to-tally Import a HDFC Bank statement into TallyPrime free — upload the PDF or Excel, ledgers map themselves, vouchers post in one click. 100 free entries.
